Nancy Allen, my compadre in crime (fellow minister), admitted something last Sunday night: She really enjoys Sunday evening worship.

Nancy and I work together in a unique ministry arrangement involving the two churches.

I pastor St. Matthew and Nancy also serves there. Nancy pastors Eastern Hills and I also serve there.

I preach three times a month and Nancy once at St. Matthew. Nancy preaches three times a month and I once at Eastern Hills.

We both are involved in the services of both churches every Sunday. Both churches have the benefit of two pastors.

The two churches are historically related, and now share a great bond of fellowship and affection.

It is, as I say, an unusual arrangement - but it works! -- bringing richness and variety to both churches - and giving me the joy of working with a fine minister.

But as I started out to say - Nancy said she really enjoys Sunday evening worship - the freedom of it, the discussion - the relaxed atmosphere. (Sunday evening worship for both churches is at E.H. at 6:00 p.m. - except for concert night at St. Matthew.)

I, too, love those "secondary," smaller services. I've always got one going at some time during the week.

They help to feed my soul.

I'm starting one at St. Matthew on Saturday, September 4 - at 5:30.

It will be informal - laid-back - and uplifting. (Can you do that? - be "laid-back" and "uplifted" at the same time? Sounds painful. But you know what I mean.)

Steve White, an accomplished guitarist, will provide accompaniment for the music.

We'll have fun with the music - whether its a classical guitar piece for a prelude, or all of us singing Hank Williams' "I saw the Light."

But the first service will begin with Amazing Grace, because - well - I just happen to love it and I'm choosing the music!

Our first study will be on The Mystery of Prayer.

If Jesus is right about prayer, we have an inside pull with the One who runs the universe.

All we have to do is call on God and we suddenly have the attention of Heaven. Is this the way it works for you - or do you feel like you are shouting to God through a brick wall? Let's talk about it.

Saturday. September 4. At 5:30.

This may feed your soul, too.
