WORSHIP TIMES -- Sunday 11:00 a.m. -- Saturday 6:00 p.m.

One thing you have to say for Bill Clinton: he loves being President.

He honestly believes he has the best job in the world.

But I have to differ with him.

I have the best job in the world.

I love being a minister of the Gospel.

And for me, the most exciting hour of the week is that hour of worship.

I think worship -- when it "works" -- is more exciting than anything you can find on TV or at the movies.

I'm serious.

Some people are foolish enough -- or should I say so uninformed -- that they think Christians go to church out of duty.

And some may.

And certainly, since I am the preacher, I do have a duty to be there.

But that's not why I go.

I go because I love it.

I go because I know the Gospel story is true.

I go because the love of God for me is real -- and the strength God gives me for living is what keeps me going.

I go to church because -- in worship -- I encounter God!

And can you think of any- thing more exciting than that?

I was recently interviewed by another minister who is doing a doctoral paper on long pastorates. He came over to talk to me, because I have been at St. Matthew for 18 years now.

I was the fifth minister he had interviewed. He said we all said the same thing: We loved the work; we had few disappointments; we rejoiced in working with people and preaching the Gospel.

"A lot of preachers don't talk that way," he said. "Many talk of frustrations, hardships, and burnout."

Lord knows, I, too, get tired. And I know the meaning of frustration.

But how could I "burn out"?

In worship, the fire of the Spirit rekindles my soul again.

We go to church to encounter the living God -- in praise, in love, and In surrender. I want that experience for you. I encourage you to worship somewhere this week.

And I am about to begin a short term weekly study experience called "Encountering God." I'll let you know when it will begin.

You may want to attend.
