In my last little article I ran a "Salvation Test" - really a survey of opinion on salvation - on who is saved and who is not.
The survey has created some interest. Here is one letter I received:
Dear Rev. Brennan, The questions I posed in my little survey did indeed tread heavily into God's territory - but I frequently hear preachers talk about who is going to heaven and who is not - often without clearly examining the implications or what they are saying. Since I published it a couple of weeks ago, I have become very fond or my little "test." I have found it to be a wonderful teaching device, forcing people to think about some of the most fundamental truths of the Christian faith. The little test gets people involved and talking. It can even make people angry. That's OK. Get those emotions involved, if you want to. Take it seriously. But for God's sake - and ours - let's examine our beliefs. Let's see what our beliefs say about the nature of God, and what they say to people who are seeking God. Is what we believe about salvation true to the spirit and teachings of Christ? - that's the question. I said that I would give the survey responses in July, but I am pushing that off to September, when I will do both a longer-than-usual article on the survey, and also a sermon series. If you still have the survey, you may send in your response to either church, addresses above, zip 76112. If you did not see the survey, I will re-publish it in August. I appreciate all of your responses, including letters. I will do my best to answer all letters. And I would be glad to do a program in other churches on the survey. I enjoy this chance we have to grow in grace together. And one more thing -- Worship somewhere this Sunday. |
