Two neighbors were swapping gossip over the backyard fence.
"Tell me more! Tell me more!" said one. "I can't," said the other. "I've already told you more than I know."
I've got a lot I would like to talk about, but I have to tell you this: We've put in a thrift store at St. Matthew, to be open a couple of Saturdays a month -- proceeds going to missions and evangelism. Our sister church, Eastern Hills, opened one last year. It has been a big success and provides a needed service. So we decided to try one. Only problem -- we had no room for one. No room. Anywhere.
But I learned a long time ago that doing the impossible Just takes a little longer. We finally made our Youth Building do triple service: youth, Scouts, and thrift store. We built walls, put in big double doors, built portable tables. The "youth parlor" is now decorated with furniture for sale. The Scout room switches - back and forth between Scouts and salesroom. I thought It would work fine -- until someone gave the church the entire contents of a house. I knew nothing about the gift -- until I opened the door of the Youth Building and couldn't step inside. It was full! -- sofas, bedroom suites, clothing, knick-knacks, what-nots, and 24 boxes of doo-dads! What could we do? Well -- what else? Take over the tractor shed, too, of course. Most churches don't have a tractor shed, but we do---and an old 1949 Ford tractor for mowing "the back 40." But the tractor has lost its home, and part of the thrift store has just moved in. Now it's going to work. Especially If you will help. Come buy something -- and give something. We welcome items big and small -- including furniture, lamps, dishes, and decorative objects. We'll even have a few antiques for sale. The money from this project will serve the cause of Christ, allowing us to do some thing In our Lord's service that otherwise we could not afford to do. So come on. Open this Saturday -- 9:00 to 4:00. Worship somewhere this week. |
