Did you hear about the violinist who played only one note.
He played it long and sweet for a love song, or short and fast for a dance -- but still -- only one note. "Hey -- what gives?" people said. "Other violinists play a lot of notes. Why do you play just one?" "Simple," he replied. "They're looking for it. I've found it."
I think I've found what I've been looking for: a way to use Scott Peck's The Road Less Traveled in a worship setting, relating its insights to Scriptural truth. This will help us apply the Gospel to the places where we hurt the most. We'll offer this unique worship/study experience on Saturday evenings at 6:00 and again Sunday mornings at 9:30 -- beginning this coming Saturday and Sunday. We are calling this new worship series "Learning to Live -- the Gospel foundation of The Road Less Traveled." And then, at the 11:00 o'clock service on Sundays I am preaching through the Gospel of Luke. Luke is my favorite Gospel -- but don't tell Matthew, Mark and John. It has my favorite parable in it -- which is also the longest parable -- the story of The Prodigal Son. When I reach that glorious story, in preaching through Luke's Gospel, we're going to do just what the Father did when his son came home. We'll throw a party. Ours will be a great service of Gospel music followed by a barbecue dinner. So -- the Gospel and RLT Saturday nights and Sunday mornings -- and Luke at 11:00. What a year!
Speaking of parties -- here's one for you just a week from now. Support those in need on the Eastside by coming to the Eastside Ministries Banquet and Songfest -- 6:00 to 8:30 -- Friday, Feb. 16. Place: East Meadows Baptist Church -- 2000 Morrison -- across Meadowbrook from St. Matthew. Music from many churches. I'll be singing something. Buy one of my albums with proceeds going to Eastside Ministries. Call to say you're coming: (817) 451-3752. (Great meal, $5 a plate.) |
