Surfin' With Chuck and Terry

May 8, 1998

Welcome back to another "Surfin' With Chuck & Terry". As always, we're glad you stopped by. We hope you enjoy what we have in store for you with this issue of "Cruisin' With StarText."

At the end of May, Terry and I will be heading to Dangerfield for a long weekend of rest and relaxation. We'll take a long weekend, walking in the woods, enjoying nature and generally doing nothing! "Cruisin' With StarText" won't be updated again until June 5, 1998. Then our column will be back with a new look and a new name. Why the new name? Many of my current readers have never heard of StarText, the forerunner to the Star-Telegram Online Services. The name, StarText, has moved on and so must the identity of this column. Terry and I are very excited to make this move towards the future! Rest assured, the look may change, but the focus will remain the same, helping our readers get the most of their online experience.

As I write this on May 1, our house is really out of order. I'm sitting in our living room instead of the office writing this. Last week, I decided it was time to paint the office and "surprised" Terry when she got home with all of the office furniture spread all over the house! With luck, before this issue is posted, the house should be back in perfect order. During the day, I paint for a while, work on the computer for a while, then it's back to painting. It will be nice when everything is finished. I've promised Terry that it WILL be finished this weekend. We've got the paint for another room and I'm sure that it will be scheduled very soon. Then we've got to start thinking about the living room, dining room and the kitchen. It never seems to end.

Sweet 16On May 16, 1998, we're all going to be celebrating StarText's 16th Birthday with a barbeque at River Legacy Park in Arlington. If you're planning on attending, you'll need to make your reservations to rsvp@star-telegram.com. Terry and I'll be there and you should be too! We'll all be at the Elm Grove Pavilion from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. After that, there is a special event that many of us will be attending. We'll tell you more about that a little later in the column.

Next, please don't forget about the StarSIG meeting on May 30, 1998 at the Rodeo Steakhouse in downtown Fort Worth. The meeting will be held from 10 am to Noon. Mary Fritz, "CyberColumnist Wrangler," will be presenting a very interesting program. If you've ever wanted to write and share your ideas, Mary's the person to talk to. If accepted, she can set you up with your very own CyberColumn. What a deal! Speaking from personal experience, it is a very rewarding experience.

As you're reading this, Terry is in Charlotte, North Carolina for a business trip. Her parents live in Rocky Mount, North Carolina so she is going to take a quick trip home over the weekend before she comes back to Fort Worth. The timing is working out perfectly. Friday, May 8th, when she finishes up in Charlotte, is her dad's birthday (she's flying out of Charlotte that afternoon). Then Sunday, May 10th, is Mother's Day. Mom knows she's coming but her dad doesn't. It will be a wonderful surprise for her dad. How much fun! It'll be good when she gets home on the 10th; I'll miss her very much.

Before we talk about this issue of "Cruisin'", let me introduce you to a couple of new CyberColumnists. Lois (Corky) Corcoran writes "Corky's Corner." She hails from "up north" and you'll love her unique look at life. Dr. Chet Haney, a Baptist pastor in Denison, has started writing a question and answer column on religion entitled "I'm Glad You Asked." Please give these new columnists a warm Texas welcome to our little family.

We hope we've got an interesting column for you today. We're going to start out with our usual collection of "Net-Bits". Following that, we're going to touch on a new volunteer effort that I am proud to be associated with, "Project Gutenberg." If you aren't familiar with it, by the time you've finished our column, you will be. Next, we're going to talk about another worthwhile organization, Summer Santa. Finally, it'll be time to chuckle and smile a bit with "Another Dose of Net-Humor." Click on the "Right" arrow below to see what kind of "Net-Bits" Terry and I have in store for you today.
