Net-Bits - Internet Tidbits

March 14, 1997

Welcome to another edition of "Net-Bits." In this section Terry and I will tell you about neat stuff we've found on the Net without a lot of personal editorializing. We'll just give you a short description and the URL and that's it. So let's see what we've got for you for this issue of "Cruisin'"?

Everything E-Mail

This site was formerly known as "Internet E-Mail Resource", but has now been revamped and is known as Mary Houten-Kemp's Everything E-Mail. If you need to know something about email, you can find it here. There are approximately 162 links concerning email. Covered topics are:

  • Mailing List Discussion Groups
  • Starting a Mailing List
  • Finding E-Mail Addresses
  • Autoresponders
  • International Resources
  • E-Mail Services for Businesses

American Literary Classics

Many of you know that Terry and I are avid readers. I was very excited to find this wonderful site. If you never got around to reading the great American Classics, this is the site for you. You log on and read a chapter a day of a great American Classic novel. Right now "Last of the Mochicans" by James Fenimore Cooper is online. You can jump in any time and get caught up. Check out this beautiful site at:

Friends Online

Do you want to know if your buddy is logged on at the same time you are? Well you can find out by using ICQ (I Seek You). Check out this pretty cool program at:

BACK Up!

This isn't a site for you to visit, but just a tip that I'm passing on from Tipworld. As we all know, installation programs play havoc with the Windows Registry, the "heart and soul" of Windows 95. It is a good idea to make backup copies of the two files that the Registry uses, user.dat and system.dat. There is a really neat program on your Windows 95 CD that allows you to make up to nine backups of your Registry. Just copy Cfgback.exe from the CD-ROM's \Other\Misc\Cfgback folder to C:\Windows, and then copy the Cfgback.hlp to the C:\Windows\Help folder. To make a backup copy, double-click on Cfgback.exe and follow the detailed instructions.

That's it for this issue of Net-Bits. Click on the "NEXT" button below to get to the next section where you'll learn about the demise of a very special friend to all of us StarTexans.
