Remember in the last column that I mentioned that Terry and I bought a new flatbed Mustek scanner? It's now gone and has been replaced by an HP5pse. There seemed to be a "bug" in the Mustek software that I didn't want to work around. I spent some time with their customer service department and they admitted that they were working on it. I know now that the switch out was a wise choice since the "software bundle" that came with the HP scanner is far superior to what was included with the Mustek. I am now very happy with our "new addition." The scanner has added all sorts of new capabilities to our system. It is amazing to see how prices have dropped on computer hardware. I feel like I stole it.
Speaking of the scanner, I'll be conducting a "Scanning Basics" class at the StarSig meeting on August 23. Follow the StarSig link for more information and directions to Rodeo Steakhouse. We have a great time on Saturday mornings. Come join us. We'll have the scanner set up for a demonstration so bring one of your favorite pictures you've been wanting to get scanned. I'll scan one image per person, more if time allows. Don't forget to bring a disk, or we can upload the image to your StarText home directory.
Another meeting you need to be aware of is the Non-Profit SIG. They will also be meeting at Rodeo Steakhouse on August 16. If you are involved with a non-profit organization and have a message to get out, you need to be there. Come learn how easy it is to get established on the Net. Both Jim Boughton and I will be there to lend a helping hand.
Terry will be hitting the road this week so I've got a couple of days that I'll be "batching" it. She'll only be gone for a couple of nights so that won't be too bad. She is headed for Greenville, South Carolina. Terry will fly into Atlanta with one of her coworkers and they'll drive on into Greenville. Terry has two out of town divisions she is responsible for and she has to visit them once a year or so. Greenville is not one of her divisions, at least not yet, but she is going along to kind of learn the ropes. Terry and I don't like being apart much, but we will get to talk on the phone.
That's about all the news to report. So let's get on with the column, we've got some pretty neat stuff for you in this issue of "Cruisin'". As usual, we've got another interesting collection of "Net-Bits". We're then going to take a look at a really cool site that Terry and I saw on the "CBS Sunday Morning" program. A wooden Viking ship, called the "Snorri" is retracing the route of Leif Ericsson's 1800 mile journey. The best thing is that we can follow the ship's progress right here on the Net. Finally, we'll then turn to our regular dose of humor from the Net. Let's get started! Click on the "Right" arrow below to move onto the "Net-Bits" section. We'll see you there.
